Five startups each receive a €22,000 pre-seed investment

On 8th October the MITA Innovation Hub (MIH) selected the following FIVE startups to form part of its first acceleration programme offering startups a pre-seed investment of €22,000:

Freshy, GreenIt, Placeholder Interactive, Riix Software, and THATSpace

The following is the full list of startups that pitched their idea to a panel of judges at the YouStartIT pitching event held at MITA Data Centre, Old Railway Track, Sta Venera. The panel was composed of accelerator manager Alex Borg, business leader and Amani founder Deborah Webster, and PwC partner Bonavent Gauci.

The MIH partnered with Takeoff Business Incubator to deliver a series of seminars to help the startups be better prepared for their entrepreneurial journey. The sessions delivered by Prof. Russell Smith covered enterprise business structure, intellectual property, business models and digital marketing. Andy Linnas, also from Takeoff, conducted two Design Thinking workshops as part of the ideation phase of the programme.

Other events organised as part of the pre-intake and ideation phase included:

  • A networking session to provide more details about the programme on 4th August 2016
  • Design Thinking workshops delivered by Andy Linnas, also from Takeoff, on 20th and 30th August; and attended by a select group of 30 startup founders.
  • A session on company formation and legal matters by PwC on 6th September 2016.
